Global Fire Safety Market Leader Participates in Annual Valley ROP Skills Competition at Reedley College (CA)
ST. LOUIS, MO – Perimeter Solutions, the global leader in the production of fire retardants, foams, and water enhancing gels, along with a wide range of services for managing wildland, industrial, municipal, and military fires, today announced the company has sponsored a team of high school students who participated in the 2019 Tiger ROMP skills competition. Held annually, Tiger ROMP is a career technical skills competition that brings together over 1,200 Valley middle and high school students to Reedley College, in Reedley California.
ROMP participants are high school seniors from seven local high schools. The students are duel enrolled through Reedley College and the Valley Regional Occupational Program (VROP). The annual skills competition involves seven challenge stations in the following subject areas: 1. GPS: mapping a fire perimeter
2. Compass Course: find in a predetermined location
3. Chain Saw: appropriate safety procedures, equipment and cutting through a log
4. Belt Whether: take weather readings needed for a spot weather forecast
5. Portable Pumps: Set up an operation of a portable pump
6. Fire Shelters: Deployment of a fire shatter
7. Handline Construction: appropriate safety procedures and use of hand tools while constructing fire life
Each squad performs as a unit and is issued an overall time score based on completing the respective station. Mistakes within a given station are penalized with time added to the overall score. Awards are given for first, second and third place finish based on lowest overall time scores. Professors at Reedley College judge the event. The Perimeter Solutions team finished the competition in third place. Congratulations to the team as they competed against some very strong competitors.

The Reedley College Forestry & Natural Resources program is a Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited program leading to a Forestry/Natural Resources AS degree. Offering a unique opportunity for career preparation. Students can earn an Associate of Science degree while receiving certifications to qualify for many natural resources jobs. Areas of emphasis include; forest recreation, wildland fire management, wildlife management, and timber management. The program averages around a 70% success rate in getting student graduates jobs in wildland fire throughout the country.
The Forestry program is the only two-year forestry technician program in California that is accredited by the Society of American Foresters, which helps manage an 800-acre school forestry laboratory at YMCA Camp Sequoia Lake near Sequoia National Park.
